Camp Guidelines

The goal of this camp is to further our understanding of our deen, help build a strong Ummah in the United States, make our campers happy, and to build lifelong memories. If we fall short in this endeavor, we ask for your understanding. May Allah reward us all.

Below are some camp guidelines and rules to help make this a safe and successful camp for all.

THE CAMP COMMITTEE HAS THE RIGHT TO REFUSE OR TERMINATE THE RIGHT TO ATTEND CAMP TO ANY PERSON WHO DOES NOT ABIDE BY CAMP RULES

REGISTRATION AND HOUSING

You must complete registration at the registration desk before entering the camp area. No unregistered individuals are allowed on the camp premises, other than for drop off and pick up of campers. The cabin assignment is done at the time your registration materials and payment were received. You cannot change your cabin unless approved by the Registration Committee. We will attempt to accommodate the needs of every camper, but may not be able to do so because of limited resources. Campers are separated by gender and by age/grade level. Girls should not enter the boys' village and the boys should not enter the girls' village. Campers must sleep in their assigned cabins, unless they have advance approval from the camp committee. Sleeping in tents or cars on camp premises is not allowed.

The following categories of campers will be preferred in cabin assignment:

  • Women with children under age 4

  • Those whose disabilities

  • Health conditions that require special accommodations

  • The elderly

CLEANLINESS

ALL campers are responsible for keeping the camp clean. Please keep personal items off the floor as much as possible. In the bathrooms, please pick up paper and clean up water from floor after each use and keep water containers on the floor under the sinks, not in the stalls. Please pick up after yourselves in the dining hall after each meal. Help to keep the campground clean by picking up and throwing away any trash you generate or see. Please sweep cabins if they are dirty and on the last day of camp.

SPORTS AND RECREATION

Sign-up sheets will be available for sports and recreation. Every effort is made to keep sports separated by gender, but the youngest children may have some sports and recreation together. Check the sign-up sheets or with the Recreation Committee for more details. There may be limited spots for some activities. While participating in recreation activities, please follow the instructions of the Recreation Committee. They reserve the right to change the recreation schedule or end an individual’s participation in an activity before the scheduled time.

FACULTY

Alhamdulillah, over the years, the Muslim Society of Central California has been able to invite many scholars for the educational part of the program. These learned men and women come from all backgrounds and have varying areas of scholarship and a variety of lecture styles. Attending classes is a mandatory part of the camp program, including for adults. PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO COME TO THE SESSIONS ON TIME AND PLEASE BE COURTEOS TO THE SPEAKERS. We ask those of you with babies and toddlers not to bring them to the sessions.

ISLAMIC ATMOSPHERE

InshaAllah all campers will do their best to keep an Islamic atmosphere in the camp. Try to use Islamic greetings instead of “HI”. Treat everyone with the proper respect and dignity. Except for what is necessary in classes and working the camp, please try to keep male/female socializing to a minimum and please keep your manner of dress and behavior as Prophet Muhammad (s) guided us (regardless of what you may do outside of camp). Camp is an ideal time for having prayers in congregation. Please show proper etiquette by coming to prayers on time and quietly. Keep your Wudu throughout the day and you won't have to rush at prayer time.

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Telephone use should be kept to a minimum and for emergencies. NOTE: Cell phones may or may not work. Except for dire emergencies, the phone is off limits after ‘lights out’.

  • There are no facilities to charge electric vehicles at camp.

  • We encourage the entire family’s involvement, but children six and older may be sent alone if you are unable to attend. Children under six years of age must be accompanied by a parent.

  • Everyone attending camp (or sending children to camp) MUST sign the Permission, Release, and Agreement to Abide by MSCC and Camp Green Meadows Guidelines and Rules.

  • If you see a problem or potential problem, immediately tell a member of the Camp Administration. If you have a complaint, go to the appropriate committee member for help. We also welcome suggestions for improvement or compliments in our suggestion box at the registration table.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Camp Green Meadows is at 5,000 foot elevation and is surrounded by the Sierra National Forest. This requires extra health and safety precautions. In general, campers MUST be in their cabins at lights out. DO NOT GO OUTSIDE AFTER LIGHTS OUT AND BEFORE THE FAJR ADHAN. If you have to go out, children should wake their counselors and adults should use the buddy system and/or inform another adult where possible.

1. FIRE - Our camp takes place during fire danger season. No smoking or vaping are allowed. Do not use matches or lighters unless instructed to do so by Camp Administration or Camp Green Meadows staff. In the event of a fire in your cabin, evacuate quickly according to the evacuation map on your cabin door and inform your counselor or member of the Camp Administration as soon as possible.

2. BEARS/ANIMALS - Wild animals, including bears and mountain lions, have been known to come very close to or into the camp grounds, especially in the last night/pre-dawn hours. Familiarize yourself with the bear safety tips in this program. DO NOT LEAVE FOOD OF ANY KIND IN YOUR CABINS OR CARS. Bears can smell the food even if it is in an ice chest and have been known to break into cars and open doors if they smell food.

3. INSECTS - There are a number of insects, including yellowjackets, around the camp site. When hiking, keep an eye out for yellowjacket nests, which are often low to the ground. Please use insect repellent. If you do not have insect repellent, the Camp Medical or Registration Committees can provide some for your use.

4. LEAVING CAMP - You must inform the Registration Committee if you have a need to leave the camp grounds. Please provide departure/return times and names of anyone who will be accompanying you. Minors cannot leave the camp grounds without their parents’ consent, which must be provided by the parent to the Registration Committee.

5. HIKING - Hiking groups must consist of a minimum of five campers and one adult hike leader. Campers must not go on hiking trails individually. Watch out for poison oak and sect nests while hiking. Stick to established hiking trails/paths.

6. FOOD - Personal snacks and other outside food are not allowed. Do not store any food in cabins or cars, as such food may attract bears and insects. If you have brought food turn it into the Camp Committee so that it can stored safely. If possible, it will be returned to you at the end of camp.

7. SWIMMING/FISHING - Swimming, fishing, or otherwise going into the creek are not allowed unless the Camp Administration has determined that there are adequate staff on duty to promote safety. Campers should never go into the water on their own.
