Preparing Your Child for MSCC Camp

Preparation plays a big role in helping campers feel confident and excited before they arrive. The more familiar camp feels ahead of time, the smoother the transition will be.

Campers spend most of their time outdoors, so packing should focus on comfort, durability, and readiness for changing weather. Closed-toe shoes are required for most activities, and we strongly recommend packing layers for cool mornings and evenings.

Essential items include:

  • Sleeping bag (or blanket and sheets) and a pillow

  • For children 4 and under bring a small crib/playpen/stroller for child to sleep in (mothers are assigned one single bed only)

  • Hijabs/scarves for girls and women

  • Comfortable sneakers and flip-flops for shower/wudu

  • Rain gear and warm layers for unexpected weather

  • Reusable water bottle

  • Flashlight with extra batteries

  • Earplugs and eye mask to help you sleep

  • Qur’an, tablet or note paper, pens/pencils (OPTIONAL)

  • Labeled clothing and toiletries:

    • Towels, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo/conditioner, lip balm, tissues, insect repellent, hairbrush, comb, sunblock.

Label everything, even socks, to prevent lost items.

To build independence before camp, encourage your child to:

  • Practice staying overnight away from home

  • Manage their own belongings

  • Communicate their needs clearly
